Ocean State Community Resources, Inc. (OSCR) provides a variety of Day
Supports to many of the people from our residential and other community
settings. Day supports can be in the form of an activities-based day
program, volunteer opportunities, or pre-vocational/vocational services.
OSCR is able to creatively design opportunities that
are community based, based on each individual’s skills and desires. Day
services are provided on an individual 1:1 basis and/or group settings.
The “activity based” supports are an alternative to
the traditional “workshop” based programs. Many of the individuals that
OSCR is providing day services to are older citizens, and are not
interested in vocational or prevocational employment. Examples of
activities are; exercise programs, cooking classes, field trips,
bowling, fishing, arts and crafts, gardening, etc.
People who receive support at OSCR are also encouraged
to give “back to the community” by volunteering are various community
organizations. Meals-on-Wheels, Animal Rescue League, nursing homes,
schools, and day care centers are some of the volunteer opportunities
utilized by our volunteers.
The agency is also certified by the Office of
Rehabilitative Services (ORS). The permits OSCR to conduct and provide a
variety of prevocational/vocational assessments and training
opportunities to people interested in entering the workforce. People are
employed by or exploring many different vocational opportunities. We
have people working or training in such areas as; administrative
assistant positions, newspaper delivery, restaurants, day care centers,
janitorial, painting, landscaping, and retail employment.
Transportation is provided to and from our day
services. We encourage public or alternative transportation for those
people that have the ability.
