CaféChino is a cafeteria-style restaurant located in the Independence
Square II in Kingston, R.I. Housed on the University of Rhode campus,
CaféChino offers a variety of restaurant skills training and employment
for many individuals.
As the kitchen is the heart of any home, CaféChino is
the truly the heart of the Independence Sq. II building. This quaint
eatery attracts college students, professors, human service
professionals, and school-aged children alike. Whether it’s for the
soup-of-the-day, an individually prepared sandwich, freshly made
cookies, fruit, yogurt, or one of the many flavors of hot tea or coffee,
the friendly atmosphere is never in short supply.
CaféChino offers both pre-vocational and vocational
opportunities. The vocational employment is part-time. Employees are
compensated by hourly minimum wage.
There are also pre-vocational placements available.
During these time limited placements, a person can explore the variety
of skills required to work in a restaurant. During a pre-vocational
placement, CaféChino staff will assess a person’s work readiness skills,
interests, and aptitude.
Some of the restaurant tasks are; stocking shelves,
cooking, meal preparation, making coffee, counter set-up, cash register,
food and supply ordering, bussing tables, and dishwashing. Proper
hygiene and social skills are a must for any successful restaurateur.
Each training or employment opportunity is individually designed based
on the needs, desires and skills of the person. Not everyone can handle
all tasks. If the cash register is where their skills and interests are,
we’ll find a place and time for them handling the money.
If you would like to find out more, please call
CaféChino Carol at 789-1563.
